The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse is a historic event in Iceland. The Moon's umbral shadow not only touches down on the country for the first time since 1954, but also crosses the capital of Reykjavík for the first time since 1433.

An otherworldly place, with so many photogenic sites, must have its own commemorative artwork. With that in mind, we commissioned Dr. Tyler Nordgren, a professional astronomer and artist, to design a poster for the eclipse in Iceland in 2026. Safe to say we're thrilled (over the Moon?) about the results.

Asked about his design, Tyler says:

"A total solar eclipse is an unforgettable multisensory experience. A crucial part of that experience is where you are as the sight, sounds, and temperature change dramatically in the moments leading to totality. To portray just a tiny fraction of the beautiful places in the path of totality across Western Iceland made me want to do something absolutely special for such a special place. I hope I've captured just a little of what is going to be the most unnatural of natural events in such an other-wordly destination."
